Student Wellbeing is the core element of life at Young High School. The focus of this strategy is the adoption of the ‘Mind Matters' program across the school for all students.
‘Mind Matters is a mental health initiative for secondary schools that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people. We call it a ‘framework', in that it provides structure, guidance, and support while enabling schools to build their own mental health strategy to suit their unique circumstances'. You can read more about the program at this link http://www.mindmatters.edu.au/
As you move around our school you will see artefacts and reminders of the program. These have been built by students, teachers, and parents coming together to participate in all of our events. Students undertake activities that explicitly promote prevention, early intervention and positive development of the individual.
The activities are weekly, covering topics of resilience, sexuality, tolerance, and diversity.
